If anyone finds a copy of Dick Taverne’s “The March of Unreason” on a train, it’s mine. Thanks.

Find A Penny…
May 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment
Unexpectedly, Penny is home. Which, apart from going to meet her at 5.30am at Heathrow, made for a brilliant bank holiday.
We watched an ace episode of Doctor Who, ordered curry from my new favourite Indian, and generally just had a great time together.
On Sunday it was time to re-plant the garden. I wouldn’t say I’m a crap gardener, but every Autumn most of what flourished over summer dies off never to return. It could be the icy, salty blasts of wind that follow the scorching sun trap of summer. Or I suspect it’s something to do with the almost complete lack of water once it gets too grim to venture out onto the balcony.
So anyway, another £70 at the garden centre got us some mossy-type alpines, a few hardier looking rocky alpine plants, a grassy thing, a load of petunias, and we thought we’d risk two strawberry plants.
We also revitalised my kitchen herb garden with thyme, coriander, sage, chives and mint. In August, you are most welcome to join us for a glass of Pimms, with a home-grown strawberry and sprig of mint.
Fingers crossed that most things live to next year: buying a whole balcony full of plants each year is quite an expensive and not a particularly satisfying way to garden.

My Name
May 17, 2007 · 1 Comment
I discovered someone else is using a name very similar to BrightonWaves to promote a new music night and I’m not sure whether to be bothered or not.
I didn’t trademark the name, basically because it would cost £200 and I don’t make any money from it. But I would like to get a band night going at some point. Plus, with the radio work I possibly have in the pipeline, the name might start to mean something. I just don’t want people mixing us up.
They’re calling their night Bandwaves. And frankly I can’t see the logic of why they’d call themselves that unless it was after having heard of me.
It seems that trademarks don’t have to be registered – if not, you have limited protection from imposters and the trademark only acts locally. But that’s ok, as it would only really be relevant locally.
Maybe I should set up BrightonWaves Ltd, which would give me some protection over the name within the music and new media industry…?
Oh, but did I mention that the people using the name are a children’s charity? If I muck them around, I start to look like a twat.

Things, things, things…

Argh! Big work-related project for my least favourite client. And the long-winded and deeply tedious audio QC to do, which takes days.
And I’m skint and need somehow to find the money for a trip to Cuba despite knowing I’ll be scraping my overdraft this month. Bugger, it’s Glastonbury next month too, so I’ll need cash for that.
Oh yeah, and it’s Mark’s show tomorrow night followed by some drinking. Which I can’t really afford and I might fall asleep in.
I’ve got to squeeze in reading K’s dissertation again tomorrow for the final check, too. Oooh and speaking of Cuba, I need to sort out the rest of the accommodation. I also need to do my washing and cleaning and eating and shopping and all the millions of other things. Why is life so unbelievably busy this week?!
There’s something else nagging at me that I can’t think of. I’m sure it’s really important and I’ve forgotten.
The sooner Penny moves in, the better. She likes cleaning and I don’t. Penny – COME BACK!

Gah! Kids shows…
May 9, 2007 · 2 Comments
I spent an hour and a half trying to put together a 60 minute programme of kids music. Without repeating anything from the previous 4 hours I’ve made before. We’ve only got about 10 half decent kids CDs as it is.
It’s harder than it sounds – most kids songs are only 2 minutes long, so you need bloody loads of them! There’s only so many Disney fucking Princesses in the world.

Hello
May 6, 2007 · Leave a Comment
No-one will read this, but Hello if you stumbled this way…
I do various internet things and in the spirit of egotism and Web2.0 bollocks, I thought it was time to put them in one central place. It’s useful for all the people who aren’t in the least bit interested in me to ignore the existence of one simple site instead of lots of others.
I have a podcast and a photo gallery, both of which you can find in the links.
That’s all. Now go and read the BBC or book a holiday or something. That’s what the internet is for.
